Chef Martin was inspired by Maya astronomy which was the study of the moon, planets, Milky Way, sun, and other astronomical occurrences by the Pre-Columbian Maya Civilization of Mesoamerica. The Classic Maya Era, in particular, developed some of the most accurate pre-telescope astronomy in the world.

 

Mayan and even Aztec cultures in Mexico, predicted, expected, and celebrated Total Solar Eclipses. They called them “The Black Sun”, and it was seen as a new beginning. However, not much is known about this new beginning as missionaries destroyed almost all the written records in the 1600s.
